What’s new.
Every Oblo release, newest first. The same notes are in the app, on the What’s New page that opens after every update.

Protected streaming, Chrome extensions and device frames
Emulation
- New
Device frame: emulated phones and tablets can show inside their body, with the screen’s rounded corners, side buttons and, on the iPhone SE, the home button. It’s on by default; hide it from the device menu. The choice is remembered per site. Screenshots and recordings stay frameless.
Developer tools
- New
Chrome extensions: React, Vue and Redux DevTools, axe, Wappalyzer and others can be added from the Chrome Web Store (a link, an ID, or the toast that shows up on the store page) or from an unpacked folder. They work in every tab and island; panels live in DevTools, popups in Tools → Extensions. Manage them in Settings → Extensions.
Browsing
- New
Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Spotify and other services with protected video (Widevine DRM) now play. The Widevine module downloads by itself on first launch.
- Improved
Sites recognize Oblo as Chrome: user agent, Client Hints (
Sec-CH-UA) andnavigator.userAgentDatamatch Chrome’s, even with an emulated language, theme or conditions. Fewer sign-ins and services that refuse the browser.
Privacy & network
- Fixed
With the ad blocker on, some sites stayed blank (Disney+, for example): uBlock’s cleanup scripts now each run on their own and no longer get in each other’s way.
Welcome tutorial
Emulation
- Improved
Default language: a site with no locale chosen sees the system language and the system time zone, no longer the one of the country’s capital.
Tabs
- Fixed
Synced split view: clicking in one pane no longer switches the other panes to the device of the last pane you changed. With two tablets side by side and one switched to mobile, the other stays a tablet.
Browsing
- New
Passkeys with Touch ID on Mac: sites that support them can create and use them with your fingerprint, stored in Oblo’s keychain. With several accounts on the same site you pick which one to use.
- Fixed
Sign in with Google: no longer rejected with “This browser or app may not be secure”, including when it goes through another site such as GitHub.
Privacy & network
- Improved
Tabs without emulation now run with no DevTools attached, so sites looking for signs of automation (sign-ins, banks, bot checks) see a regular browser. It attaches only when needed: devices, conditions, overlays, synced view, captures.
App & settings
- New
Tutorial: on first launch, a step-by-step tour of what a regular browser can’t do: emulation, developer tools, annotated screenshots and recordings, islands and split view, highlighting the real buttons one at a time. Esc skips it; reopen it from Settings → General, the command palette or the app menu. Features are shown at work on real pages, such as apple.com and MDN, in a temporary tab that leaves no trace.
- Improved
On Mac, one download per processor, Apple Silicon or Intel, instead of a universal one: the app and its updates are about half the size. The website offers the right one automatically.
Eight languages, Linux, split view and tab recording
Emulation
- New
Free sizing: drag the device edges, with a ruler showing Tailwind breakpoints. New devices: iPhone 16 Pro Max, Galaxy S24, Galaxy Z Fold5, iPad Pro 13", 1366 laptop and QHD.
Developer tools
- New
Running dev servers (
oblo://dev, ⌥⌘L): the web servers listening on your computer, as a grid with previews or a list, with framework, project and process. It can also be your new tab page. - New
Annotated screenshots (⇧⌘A, or ⌥ on the button): the page freezes and you draw arrows, boxes, text, numbered steps and highlights on top, or pixelate sensitive data. ↩ delivers the image to the clipboard or to a file. In Settings you can make it what the Screenshot button does.
- New
Record the tab as a video (⌥⌘R) or a GIF (⌥⌘G), with clicks shown as circles: handy for showing an interaction bug or an animation on an emulated device. Videos are MP4 and can include the tab’s audio; GIFs last up to 60 seconds.
- New
Grid and Flexbox overlays, from the Tools menu: CSS grid lines, numbers and area names, and the spacing of flex containers, drawn over the page and updated as it changes.
- Fixed
The Tools menu now updates on every page, not only when switching tabs.
Tabs
- New
Split view: up to three tabs side by side, each with its own device, for example mobile, tablet and desktop together. In the tab bar and with ⌃Tab they count as a single tab. Create it with ⌥⌘S, from a tab’s context menu, or by dragging a tab onto another tab or onto the page.
- New
Synced split view (⌥⌘Y): scrolling, clicks, typing and navigation in one pane are repeated in the others, so you can test the same page on several devices at once. You turn it on per split view and it is off by default, since it gets in the way with different pages.
- New
Reorder tabs by dragging them: the tab follows the mouse and the others move aside to make room.
- New
Tab hibernation: tabs left idle for a time you choose free their memory and reload when you open them again, back and forward included. Pinned tabs and dev servers stay loaded unless you change it in Settings. At startup, restored tabs load only when you open them.
- New
Tab context menu: duplicate with history, pin, mute, hibernate, close others. ⇧⌘T reopens the last closed tab.
- New
Islands (⇧⌘N): tabs with cookies and storage all their own, for example an admin and a guest side by side, each on their own island. Every island has a coloured number and remembers its logins after you quit Oblo; you can turn that off in Settings → General. Hover a tab and a + slides out to open another tab on the same island; right-click the + to reopen a remembered island, or forget one from the tab menu.
- Fixed
Opening a new tab keeps the cursor in the address bar instead of moving it to the page.
Browsing
- New
Command palette (⌘K): commands, open tabs, devices, locales, network and CPU conditions, proxies, bookmarks and history in one list you filter by typing. Enter with no results opens the text as an address or search.
- New
Find in page (⌘F, ⌘G) and per-site page zoom (⌘+, ⌘−, ⌘0), remembered across launches.
- New
Downloads go to your Downloads folder, with a button that appears in the tab bar and shows progress around its icon (⇧⌘J for the list).
- New
Print (⌘P), Save as PDF in A4 or “as on screen” on a single page, and View Source (⌥⌘U or
view-source:).
Privacy & network
- New
Ad and cookie banner blocking, from the shield in the address bar: uBlock Origin, EasyList and EasyPrivacy lists for ads and trackers, EasyList Cookie for banners. Off by default, turn them on everywhere or for a single site; the shield counts blocked requests, which no longer show up as errors.
- New
Proxies: HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS4 and SOCKS5, saved with name, user and password (in the Keychain), for all of Oblo or for a single island. The default stays the system proxy; localhost and the local network always go direct. Settings → Network & Privacy.
- New
Site info, from the icon left of the address: certificate (issuer, validity, names, copy as PEM), cookies with their values and one-by-one deletion, storage used, permissions you can always allow or block.
App & settings
- New
What’s New page: after every update Oblo tells you what changed. Find it under What’s New in Oblo (Oblo menu on Mac, File on Windows), in Settings or by typing
oblo://settings/changelog. - New
The interface now comes in eight languages: Italian, English, French, Spanish, Portuguese (Portugal and Brazil), German and Dutch. It follows your system language by default; change it in Settings → General, instantly, without restarting. The language sites see is still the emulated locale.
- New
Oblo for Linux: a deb package for Ubuntu and Debian, and an AppImage for other distributions, 64-bit.
- Fixed
Settings are no longer lost if Oblo quits while saving them.
Import, Settings in a tab, customizable toolbar
Emulation
- Fixed
Reopening a tab with an emulated device no longer leaves the page drawn in the top-left corner.
Developer tools
- New
Screenshots to the clipboard, to a file, or both.
Tabs
- New
On launch, reopen your last tabs or just the start page: diagnostics, a blank page or an address of your choice.
Browsing
- New
Import bookmarks and history from Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, Vivaldi, Opera, Chromium, Firefox, Zen and Safari: on first launch or from File → Import from Another Browser. Bookmark folders are kept, as submenus of the Bookmarks menu.
- Improved
Back and Forward with ⌘← and ⌘→ on Mac too, like other browsers, when focus isn’t in a text field.
App & settings
- New

oblo://settings), with sections and search. - New

Oblo, the developer’s browser
- New
The browser gets its name: Oblo. From the Italian oblò, the porthole you look through to see what’s on the other side.
