Features

Chrome is made for browsing. Oblo is made for building.

Everyday browsers show you the web the way you see it. Oblo starts from the opposite question: how does everyone else see it? Device, language, network and accessibility become controls in the toolbar, not settings buried in a panel you close by mistake.

Why not just DevTools

Because the answer shouldn’t take nine clicks.

Chrome’s device mode is great, and Oblo runs on the same engine. But it lives inside DevTools: spread across several panels, reset when you close them, forgotten on your next visit, and it doesn’t change the language your server receives. Oblo puts all of it in one toolbar and remembers it site by site.

01 · Emulation that reaches all the way to the server.

See it the way they do

Real devices

123

iPhone 15, 16 Pro Max and SE, Pixel 8, Galaxy S24 and Z Fold5, iPad Air, mini and Pro, Galaxy Tab, and laptop viewports up to QHD. Size, pixel density, touch, user agent and client hints change together.

Notch and safe area

Recent iPhones get the status bar, the Dynamic Island and the home indicator, with the same safe-area insets Safari reports, in portrait and landscape.

Any size

Drag the edges to the size you need. A ruler with Tailwind’s breakpoints sits above the device: click sm, md or lg to snap to it.

Rotation

O

Portrait and landscape with one key. screen.orientation and orientation media queries follow.

Language, time zone and location

L

Ten ready-made locales plus any BCP 47 tag. Accept-Language, navigator.languages, Intl, time zone and geolocation change together, and the page reloads so your server notices too.

Light and dark

T

Force prefers-color-scheme on the page without touching your system theme.

02 · The conditions real people browse in.

Break it before your users do

Slow networks and CPUs

S

Fast 4G, Slow 4G, 3G and offline; CPU throttled 4×, 6× or 20×. Saved per site along with the device.

Media and accessibility

Print, prefers-reduced-motion, prefers-contrast and forced-colors, plus simulated vision deficiencies.

Rendering overlays

Layout shift regions, paint flashing, layer borders, element outlines and an FPS meter, from the same menu.

Errors at a glance

A red badge counts JS exceptions, console.error and failed or ≥ 400 requests on the page. One click lists them and jumps to the Console.

03 · The checks you run before going live.

Ship it right

Page panel

⌘\

Title, description, H1, lang, viewport, canonical, robots, Open Graph, hreflang and image alt at a glance, with a share preview and the heading outline.

Request rules

Block URLs with wildcards (there’s a list of common trackers too), add headers, turn off JavaScript or the HTTP cache. Rules are saved per site.

Faithful screenshots

⇧⌘S

At the emulated resolution, 1170 px wide for an iPhone 15, or the full page up to 16,384 px. To a folder or straight to the clipboard.

04 · Small things that save the day.

Built for how you work

Local HTTPS that just works

Self-signed certificates are accepted on localhost, 127.x, *.localhost, *.test, *.local and private IPs. Everywhere else, certificate errors stay errors.

On your real phone

Q

A QR code with the page’s address, with localhost turned into your LAN IP: your phone opens your dev server directly.

Islands

⇧⌘N

Each island has its own cookies and storage and remembers its logins after you quit: an admin and a guest side by side, each on their own island.

It remembers

Each site reopens with the device, language, theme and conditions you were testing it with.

Clean slate

Clears cookies (parent domain too), localStorage, sessionStorage, IndexedDB, service workers and the site’s cache, then reloads.

Keyboard first

Every command has a global shortcut and a single-key shortcut, both remappable in Settings.

Still a browser

Tabs that come back, history autocomplete, bookmarks and the search engine you like. Use it all day, not just for testing.

Honest limits

What Oblo doesn’t do (yet).

It isn’t Safari

The engine is Chromium. On iPhone and iPad, size, touch, language and user agent match, but WebKit’s own rendering bugs only show up in a real Safari.

Linux is x64 only

On Linux there’s a deb package and an AppImage for 64-bit Intel and AMD processors: no ARM, Flatpak or Snap for now.

Only passkeys made in Oblo

Passkeys from iCloud Keychain, Chrome or your phone (QR or Bluetooth sign-in) aren’t available. On Mac, Oblo creates its own with Touch ID: sign in another way and add one from Oblo in your account settings.

Some sign-ins may refuse it

Some sites block browsers they don’t recognize as Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge. Signing in with Google works; other services may still refuse for now.

In development Oblo 0.2, built directly on Chromium, fixes the compatibility issues with identity providers, protected streaming and passkeys. It comes to Apple Silicon Macs first, with every other platform following right after.
