Separate accounts
Each account gets its own Claude Desktop data folder: sign-in, preferences and Code tab sessions. On first launch Claude asks you to sign in.
Persona asks which profile to use before opening Claude Desktop. Each profile has its own account, skills, rules and MCP servers, and several profiles can stay open at once.

How it works
With a new Claude account that signs in on its own, or with the same account as another profile but separate skills and rules.
From the starting profile, component by component: unified, separate, extended or empty. Down to single skills.
Persona opens Claude Desktop with the profile’s folder. If that profile is already open, it brings its window to the front.
One Claude instance per account, all at the same time. And the same profile in the terminal, with Claude Code.
What’s inside
Each account gets its own Claude Desktop data folder: sign-in, preferences and Code tab sessions. On first launch Claude asks you to sign in.
One instance per account, side by side. Two profiles on the same account can’t: Persona offers to close the other one.
Start from an existing one and choose, for each component, what to share, what to copy and what to leave empty.
Make a unified skill your own, unlink it, or import one from any other profile. New items in the source are linked at every launch.
Copy Code tab conversations from one profile to another, even across accounts. If the target account is open, they arrive at its next launch.
A command to copy for using the profile with the Claude Code CLI, plus Persona’s own CLI: list, create, sync, launch.
← → to choose, return to launch, the profile’s number to go straight there. ⌘N for a new profile, ⌘, for settings.
~/.claude is only ever read. Replacements move the old version to the Trash, and no folder is ever moved.
Signed and notarized by Apple. Checks every 6 hours and installs the update when it quits, or asks first if you prefer.
Components
A new profile starts from an existing one. For each of these components you choose how: Persona rewrites the absolute paths in settings and plugins to point at the new folder.
Links to the source’s items: a change applies to both. You can still add items of your own.
An independent copy: from then on the profile goes its own way.
CLAUDE.md only: a file of its own that imports the source’s and adds specific rules.
The component starts empty.
skills/UnifiedSeparateEmptyagents/UnifiedSeparateEmptycommands/UnifiedSeparateEmptyoutput-styles/UnifiedSeparateEmptyrules/UnifiedSeparateEmptyCLAUDE.mdExtendedUnifiedSeparateEmptysettings.jsonSeparateEmptyplugins/SeparateEmptymcpServersSeparateEmptyHighlighted: the suggested mode; the others are picked when you create the profile. Credentials, sessions and project memory are never copied: each profile has its own.
Your data
The Main profile stays untouched.
The Main profile is your usual ~/.claude and Claude Desktop’s usual data folder. Persona only reads them: the other profiles live in ~/.claude-profiles, each in its own folder.
No folder is moved or swapped. When something has to be replaced (a re-import, a change of CLAUDE.md mode, removing an item of your own) the old version goes to the Trash, not into thin air.
Limits, stated plainly
Opening Claude from the Dock or Spotlight uses the Main profile. For the others, open Persona.
Two profiles on the same account can’t be open together: Persona offers to close the other one.
claude.ai chats live on Anthropic’s servers and can’t be moved. Code tab sessions can.
If Claude restarts on its own, for example to update, it keeps the account but falls back to the Main configuration.
FAQ
No. It’s an independent Line33 project that opens Claude Desktop with the profile folder you pick. It doesn’t modify Claude and isn’t affiliated with Anthropic.
A Mac running macOS 14 or later, Apple Silicon or Intel, with Claude Desktop already installed.
Open the DMG, drag Persona to Applications and open it instead of Claude. The Main profile is already there: create the others from the launch window.
Yes: create a profile with “New account” and sign in with the other account on first launch. Both Claudes can stay open together.
Yes. The “Terminal command” button copies the command for using a profile with the Claude Code CLI, with its skills, settings and MCP servers.
Yes. Creating profiles doesn’t change the Main profile, but Persona’s Backup button saves ~/.claude, Claude Desktop’s data and ~/.claude-profiles to a .zip archive, with Claude closed. Restore instructions are inside the archive.
Quit Claude and Persona, move Persona to the Trash and, if you no longer need the other profiles, ~/.claude-profiles too (with their accounts and sessions). The Main profile is the one you always had: just open Claude directly.
Italian, English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch: Persona follows your Mac’s language.
